========================================================================

They had spent what felt like hours waiting out in the rain, soaking wet absolutely everywhere. Toma, the Glameow, had been complaining the entire time, whining about her scarf. The other, a Nidoran named Dawson, had eventually started to get quite fed up with it.

“The color’s going to bleed,” Toma growled through gritted teeth. “This is the dumbest idea we’ve ever had. I can’t believe you talked me into this.”

“You’ve said that already,” said Dawson. “Come on, if you’re really going to whine so much about this, can’t you just go up to the door and knock?” He gave a quick nod in the direction of the large cottage in front of them.

“You were the one that got us into this! It was all your idea.”

“Yeah, but you agreed to it!”

“Dawson, I’m not going near that door.”

The Nidoran gave a loud sigh. “Fine then, scaredy-cat. I’ll do it.”

Dawson started off slowly toward the door to the large house in front of them, ignoring Toma’s continued complaints. He wasn’t nervous in the slightest. Doing this is what Dawson had always dreamed of. Plus, he and Toma would make quite a pair, especially as rogues.

When Dawson reached the door, he waited for a few moments. It wasn’t that he was nervous, but he was a bit conflicted. Toma certainly didn’t seem happy about joining a guild, but she did say she liked the idea. She certainly was and odd one. It was so hard to tell what she was thinking.

“Hurry it up, Dawson!”

Toma’s shout startled Dawson, making him jump. Complying with Toma’s command, Dawson knocked a few times on the door. Practically immediately after knocking, the door flew open to reveal a rather odd looking Ninetales.

At first glance, he seemed to be what everyone called “shiny.” But, after looking a moment longer, Dawson couldn’t tell. He had gray fur, much like the shiny coloration, but the tips of his tails were covered in what seemed to be ink or paint. Shiny or not, he certainly did look odd.

“Come in, come in!” the Ninetales cried out. His tone was much more upbeat than one would have thought. “My goodness, come in! I can’t believe you’ve all been waiting outside in the rain all this time! You could have knocked earlier, you know!”

“That’s exactly what I was saying,” Toma muttered as she bounded toward the door, just loudly enough for Dawson to hear. Dawson knew that Toma had never actually said that, but he was too afraid of her possible reaction to say anything.

The two stepped cautiously into the cottage, glancing around at the various knickknacks and odd furniture that filled all available space. It didn’t seem like the Ninetales went outside very often by the look of it all.

“My name is Callahan, or Calla, for short. I’m the guild registrar, you know. I’m quite good at it!” Callahan gave a wide smile, revealing alarmingly sharp teeth. It amazed both Toma and Dawson how friendly this Pokémon was.

“It’s nice to meet you,” Toma said, no feeling behind her voice at all. “My name is—“

“Oh, please allow me to take your belongings, they’re all wet! I’ll just hang them in front of the fireplace to dry as we go over the formalities.”

“I guess so. Thank you.” Toma glared at Callahan for a second before unwrapping the scarf from her neck. Dawson complied as well, although he didn’t exactly want to. But, if Toma was going to, then Dawson would as well.

The two held out their respective fabrics, which were snapped up by Callahan rather quickly. He padded over to the fireplace across the room, stepping over a stack of papers, and hung the scarf and ribbon over a bar near the fire. They were sure to be warm and dry soon.

“So how do we do this?” Dawson asked. “Are there things to take care of or papers to fill out?”

“Ah, the paperwork, of course!” Callahan said much too excitedly. “There will be a lot of that, don’t you worry one bit! You do have the forms that we’ve mailed you filled out, yes? That does always make things go much quicker here.”

“Of course we do!” Toma said. “Dawson, give him the forms.”

“But I thought you were supposed to bring the forms.” Dawsons voice faltered toward the end as he realized their mistake.

“What’s this? You forgot the forms?” Callahan said, his smile never fading. “Goodness, we’re in for a lot more paperwork than I could have hoped to dream of!”

Callahan bounded off across the room, searching through a rather overburdened desk full of papers.

“No matter, I have spare forms, and all the time in the world! I trust you have no pressing appointments yet, so I’ll write down your information now. With your help, of course.”

Toma and Dawson glanced at each other, both giving the same look. Callahan was even more odd than they had first thought. He seemed much too excited over paperwork. It did explain why the house was so cluttered with papers, however.

“Let’s get right down to it, shall we?” Callahan padded back over to the two, bringing back an enormous stack of forms. “My fastest time for entering a team in the official guild registrar is a touch under a few hours; let’s see if we can break the record! All right now, names, please?”

The two were silent for a moment, still baffled by the Nintales in front of them. They had expected the visit would be quick; maybe take a half an hour to get everything done. A two or three hours was not at all what they were expecting. Maybe this idea wasn’t such a good one after all.

“My name is Toma,” the Glameow said, her tone become impatient. “And this dumb sack of rocks is Dawson.”

Dawson ignored Toma’s comment. She often made fun of him, and he would do the same to her. Over the time they’d known each other, the insults lost all meaning.

“Ahh.. what.. commo- er, good names you all have! How do you spell them?”

Toma once again stepped up to the plate, going on to spell both of their names. She had to control herself not to purposefully misspell Dawson’s name.

“Interesting spelling! Are you foreign? French, perhaps?” Callahan chuckled a bit. “Ah, no, forget it, France is just made up here, you know. Often used as comic relief. Er, just forget that. Moving on!”

“What alias do you wish to give you lot of fellows? I hope it’s something good! I’ve been so bored by Pokemon insisting to use a name like ‘Team Awesome’ or anything of the sort. More like ‘Team Mediocrity,’ I like to think! I’m sure you have a much more original name. “

“We were thinking Team Fluorescent Moon!” Dawson chimed out. Toma shot him a quick glare. They had actually never decided on a name. But, since it did have a nice ring to it, Toma let the name slide. Team Fluorescent Moon. Yes, that did sound pretty nice.

“I knew you wouldn’t let me down!” Callahan started writing on the papers, taking a bit longer than one would think. “And.. done. All right! Next topic!”

Callahan glanced back and forth between Dawson and Toma, finally settling his eyes on the latter.

“You there, lad! You seem to be the leader of the team, here. Why don’t you tell me about yourself? Please make it interesting! I’m not filing a police report, you know. I don’t get paid for this, either. I do it for the stories people tell! Everyone has a story! I do hope yours isn’t filled to the brim with angst and darkness, you know. We have enough of that as it is with the recent crises we’ve been going through!”

Starting with a sigh, Toma went on to explain her story.

Toma grew up as the only child of two Puruglies. Her parents loved her, and she loved her parents right back. It was a rather normal and boring life. The other Pokémon her age would often ignore her, and those who didn’t would never said very nice things.

After getting fed up with being treated like an outcast, Toma decided she needed to prove herself. She would pick fights with the other Pokémon who dared to ignore her or make fun of her. Everyone became frightened of her. She wasn’t just any old Glameow anymore.

“What an enchanting tale!” Callahan said immediately after Toma had finished. “I can see why you’d probably like to join the rouges!”

“And you there, lad, what is your story? Your leader has done an excellent job of keeping me awake at this late hour, I hope you do the same!”

Dawson started his tale by leading right out of Toma’s. The two lived very close to one another and would often cross paths. Dawson had never been afraid of Toma, no matter how many times she would show off her strength and agility.

One day, Dawson had decided to challenge Toma. He wanted to see if she really was as strong as everyone claimed. But, instead of accepting the challenge, Toma had only laughed. She admired Dawson’s bravery and forwardness. The two had become friends right then and there, showing off their strength to any of the locals who dare mess with them.

“Very well, then! It seems I have all I need in order to register you here in our peaceful Tao Village! Just to make sure all the facts are correct, please look over them and sign your initials at the bottom!” Callahan pushed the forms toward the two and paused for a moment. “Oh, don’t forget to sign off on your belongings! You wouldn’t believe how many people forget their accessories, only to leave them here with me!”

Just as Dawson began looking over the information, Toma swept them aside to get right to the signature form. It was clear that she wasn’t enjoying this visit with Callahan at all as she scrawled her name rather quickly on the form. Dawson followed suit, but noticed something odd.

“Uh, Callahan? You know there’s only two of us, right?”

“Of course I know that! I do have eyes, you know!” Callahan chuckled. “What if, during your travels, you decide to recruit, or add on an extra member to your team? Would you really want them to fill out all this paperwork from scratch? There’s no problem with me for that, I assure you! This is just a convenient foresight! There is only room enough for four signatures on here, though, so please, no more members than that!”

“Well, now! I don’t think I’ll keep you here any longer, I have everything I need from you! I haven’t broken any records for time tonight, though. Your story took up quite a bit of it! Oh well! Time to conclude our business here!”

Callahan hastily shooed the two toward the door, ignoring Toma’s protesting. The second they were on the front step, the door to the cottage slammed shut behind them. The two stood there for a moment, stunned from the entire ordeal. It was Dawson who finally broke the silence.

Honestly, this isn't too bad at all!
"im pretty bad at writing-" I stopped right there and scoffed. This is far better than my own.

I'm still pretty new at this as well; starting up my first mission now, actually. :3
